At Hinton Community School, Fire Prevention Week was observed by inviting our local fire department to the school. Fire Chief, Chad Beeck, along with Assistant Fire Chief, Nick Hartman and Public Information Officer, Jeff Wiese spoke to the students in grades D-6 on the importance of fire safety and prevention. Mr. Hartman visited with the students about making sure that everyone in their family practiced escapes routes from every room in their home, the “stop-drop-roll” method if their clothing caught on fire and about staying low to the ground in a burning room until they were able to escape or until the fire department could reach them. The firemen also brought along one of the fire trucks and Mr. Wiese put on the fire gear to show the children what the firemen look like when they go to fight a fire. For the fifth and sixth grade students the firemen demonstrated a new piece of equipment that the Hinton Fire Department just recently received called a thermal imaging camera. Mr. Hartman explained to the students the value this piece of equipment has to the fire department and showed them how they used it. The students also were able to experiment with it. Hinton Community School would like to thank the Hinton Fire Department for their continued support to the school and for providing the students with valuable information about fire safety and prevention.
